Just as HTML enables users to find information on their computers, VoiceXML enables them to retrieve information from their phone. VoiceXML is the technology responsible for giving you driving directions, tracking orders or packages, refilling your prescription, tracking your flight schedule, offering voice access to your email - all over the telephone. With over 1.5 billion phones worldwide, VoiceXML will undoubtedly become a key way we access information. The VoiceXML gateway is a key component in this system. How does VoiceXML work? First, a user calls a designated phone number. This call is answered by the voice XML gateway. The gateway retrieves the script from a VoiceXML server. It then passes along the script's commands, playing the specified prompts and listening for a response (which can come in the form of speech or touch tones). When the script has gathered all relevant responses from the caller, the gateway passes them back over to the server. The server in turn, responds with a VoiceXML page that contains the information requested by the caller. Web Design - Small business custom website from EverestWebDesign.com.
